The Rose Pantry

Dignified Food Access in a Grocery-Store Setting

Purpose: To provide compassionate, immediate relief from food insecurity while honoring the dignity, choice, and normalcy of every person we serve. We believe that accessing nutritious food should be a respectful and hopeful experience, especially in times of need.

Who We Serve: Our neighbors in Nacogdoches County and surrounding East Texas communities who are facing food insecurity. All are welcomed with kindness and without judgment.

Our Model | Designed for Dignity, Built for Care

We have intentionally designed The Rose Pantry to resemble a small, welcoming grocery store—not a traditional food bank. This thoughtful layout reflects our deep commitment to respect, normalcy, and personal agency during difficult times.

Here’s how our grocery-store model works:

  • A Welcoming Entry: Clients are greeted by a friendly volunteer host, just as they would be at any local market.
  • Personalized Shopping: Instead of receiving a pre-packed box, clients are given a shopping list reflecting available inventory and guided through the pantry aisles.
  • Choice & Preference: Individuals and families select their own food items based on personal taste, cultural traditions, dietary needs, and family size. This empowers our neighbors to choose what they will actually use and enjoy, reducing waste and restoring a sense of control.
  • A Calm, Organized Environment: Our shelves are neatly stocked, produce is displayed fresh and appealing, and the space is clean and well-lit creating an atmosphere of care and normalcy.

What’s on Our Shelves | Nutrition-Focused Selection

  • Fresh from Our Farm: A cornerstone of our pantry is the fresh, seasonal produce harvested directly from our sustainable campus. This not only provides peak nutritional value but also reinforces the tangible link between our agricultural mission and community nourishment.
  • Thoughtfully Sourced Staples: We supplement with healthy, shelf-stable items—whole grains, proteins, legumes, and low-sodium options—carefully selected in partnership with the East Texas Food Bank and local donors.
  • Essentials with Care: We also stock basic personal care and household items when available, acknowledging that dignity extends beyond food.

More Than Food | A Gateway to Community & Support

The Rose Pantry is designed to be a point of connection, not just distribution.

  • Resource & Referral Hub: Our volunteers are prepared to share information about our other programs—like The Family Harvest Table cooking classes or Grounds for Healing—and can help connect clients to additional local resources such as SNAP benefits, WIC, or health services.
  • A Foundation of Respect: We believe that how support is given matters as much as the support itself. By offering choice and a grocery-store experience, we intentionally reduce stigma and honor the individual journey of each person who walks through our doors.

The Heart of Our Mission

The Rose Pantry is a living expression of our core values of Community Integration and Intergenerational Impact. It represents the full circle of our sustainable model:

Our vineyard funds our programs → Our programs grow fresh food → That food nourishes our community with dignity.

In this way, every visit to the pantry is a reminder that our community cares, that hard times are met with hope, and that everyone deserves to shop for their family with their head held high.

Distribution: Twice a month during set hours. Pre-packaged boxes are available for delivery to homebound seniors or those without transportation, always with the same standard of care and quality.
